Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
